Locke Lord Names Chairs for Four Major Departments, Forms New Practice Committee to Enhance Client Services

February 18, 2011 – Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell’s Executive Committee has appointed seven Partners across the Firm to head its nationwide Corporate, Intellectual Property, Litigation and Real Estate/Finance departments during 2011.

The Executive Committee also created a new Practice Committee to ensure quality client service across Locke Lord’s 13 offices and to provide input on hiring, compensation, strategic planning and business development.

“We have every confidence that this strong, united and committed team will help Locke Lord do even better at our No. 1 priority – serving our clients above and beyond what is expected,” said Firm Chair Jerry Clements. “We always strive to move to the next level in client service and nationwide reach, and this is the group to help take us there.”

The Corporate and Transactional Department will be co-chaired by Don Glendenning, Managing Partner of the Dallas Office, and Mike Peters of the Houston Office. Houston’s Bob McAughan and New York’s John Sweeney are the new Co-Chairs of the Intellectual Property Department. The Litigation Department will be headed by Co-Chairs Tom Cunningham of Chicago and John McDonald of Dallas. Lou Cohen in the Chicago Office will Chair the national Finance, Banking and Real Estate Department. The new Practice Committee will be headed by Rob Mowrey of Dallas.

Practice Committee Chair
The department chairs will serve on the new Practice Committee led by Rob Mowrey, former Co-Chair of the Litigation Department and a former Management Committee member. Mowrey is an accomplished trial lawyer whose practice primarily focuses on representing and defending financial institutions in the consumer financial services industry. Mowrey is named in the Chambers USA 2010 Client Guide of America's Leading Lawyers for Business.

Corporate and Transactional Department Co-Chairs
Don Glendenning’s focus on corporate and securities matters and transactions covers a wide range of experience, including private equity and venture capital transactions, senior and subordinated debt financings, asset and stock acquisitions, going-private transactions and divestitures, spin-offs and mergers. The respected Chambers publication calls Glendenning “brilliant and one of the most client-service oriented lawyers out there.” Mike Peters, former head of the Mergers & Acquisitions Section, has vast experience in mergers and acquisitions of public and private companies, raising capital, private equity transactions, joint ventures and partnership and limited liability company structures. He is recognized in the Chambers USA 2010 Client Guide of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.

Intellectual Property Department Co-Chairs
Bob McAughan, former head of the Firm's Intellectual Property Litigation Section, has experience in all facets of intellectual property litigation, transactional matters and general counseling, including patents, trademarks, trade dress and trade secrets. Chambers USA recognizes him as a “Leading Intellectual Property Attorney in Texas.” John Sweeney has more than 35 years of experience in patent, trade secret and trademark litigation and has been selected as one of the “Leaders in Their Field” by Chambers USA and Chambers Global. He has vast experience in patent, antitrust, trademark and trade dress bench and jury trials and appeals.

Litigation Department Co-Chairs
Tom Cunningham represents banks and financial institutions in both state and federal courts and frequently engages in consumer protection class action litigation and litigation involving fraud, fraudulent transfers and bankruptcies. John McDonald, former chair of the Dallas litigation group, has more than 20 years of experience in a broad range of complex issues in both state and federal trial and appellate courts, with a particular focus on pharmaceutical litigation and government investigations involving pricing, marketing, promotion and regulatory matters. His experience also includes complex commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, employment litigation, lender liability and debt collection, products liability and landlord/tenant litigation.

Finance, Banking and Real Estate Department Chair
Lou Cohen is recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Legal 500 and Best Lawyers in America for Real Estate Law. His practice - national in scope and recognition – involves transactional real estate matters and matters related to the development and use of professional sports venues, with clients that include national lenders, developers, REITs, public pension funds, pension fund advisors, governmental entities and private owners of majority and minority interests in professional franchises and corporate sponsors.
