(NEW YORK) February 16, 2011 – Gaston Kroub, a well-known Intellectual Property attorney, has joined Locke Lord as a Partner in its New York office. He comes to Locke Lord from Greenberg Traurig and will be part of the Firm’s nationwide IP Litigation and Trademark, Copyright and Advertising practices.

Kroub’s focus on patent litigation is complemented by his experience in trade secret, trademark, copyright and false advertising matters, and he is the first registered patent attorney in the country accredited as a LEED® Green Associate for his knowledge in the areas of green building, design and operations, a topic he is frequently invited to speak and write about. This knowledge base enables his work with clients in the development of products and services in the emerging green technology sector – projects that increase efficiency, preserve natural resources and reduce emissions while advancing sustainability and environmental consciousness. Kroub’s diverse experience includes counseling clients and litigating patent cases involving Internet business methods, financial services, software, recombinant DNA, automotive, consumer electronics, computer hardware, plastics, pharmaceuticals, web-based data mining and other topics.

“Gaston’s addition to our New York Office adds another strong component to our IP practice, and he brings years of strong client relationships and cross-selling opportunities with him,” said David Greene, Managing Partner of the New York Office. “His high energy approach and forward-looking philosophy in the field of green technology are added bonuses for a Partner who will fit in well with our Firm’s culture and strategic goals.”

Kroub, who is fluent in Hebrew, earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is Co-Chair of the Greentech Committee of the New York Bar Association’s IP Section and is a frequent speaker and writer on ‘Cleantech IP.’ Kroub contributes hours of volunteer time to community and pro bono projects, most notably with the New York City Family Court’s Self-Represented Litigants initiative.

The Los Angeles-based Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will feature Kroub as a guest speaker at a seminar on “The Legal Side of Green Tech: IP, Patents and Green Advertising” at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at its Los Angeles office, 777 S. Figueroa St., 26th Floor. For information on this Technology Exchange Seminar, call (213)624-8855, ext. 116.
