Houston Partner Bill Swanstrom, Co-Chair of the Firm's Energy Practice Group, commented on energy dealmaking in the first half of 2017 and the continued recovery of oil and gas M&A with an increase of private equity-backed deals, particularly in the Permian Basin of West Texas. Bill noted: “You had private equity funds basically backing fairly well-known and successful upstream operators. Between the initial private equity backing and capital markets' receptability to betting on these opportunities, that tells you that both private equity and capital markets investors are feeling more bullish about the space.”
