1 March 2017 – Nigel Montgomery has joined Locke Lord as a Consultant in the Firm’s London office. With extensive experience advising the insurance market in the UK and abroad on transactions and business issues, Montgomery will help strengthen and expand the Firm’s global Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group by building an insurance team in the Firm's well-established office in London.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Nigel’s stature join our team,” said Nick J. DiGiovanni, Chair of the Firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance Disputes, Coverage & Counseling Practice. “Nigel has a stellar reputation in the insurance market and will work alongside our UK and U.S. lawyers. His valuable insurance experience will be key as he helps us to grow our insurance capabilities in London. He is a strong asset to our team and our clients.”

Montgomery has had a distinguished track record working as an adviser to the insurance industry for more than three decades. Aside from regulatory and general commercial advice, he was responsible for much pioneering work in the restructuring of insurance companies and played a pivotal role in resolving early insolvencies in the sector. Montgomery also has advised on acquisitions and sales of insurers and brokers as well as on the establishment of branches and new insurance companies. His additional areas of focus have included cyber risk, cyber insurance, bank operational risk insurance and run-off.

“I have had long ties with the Firm’s respected and well-known insurance and reinsurance lawyers and I am excited to now have the opportunity to work beside them and help grow this international practice in London,” Montgomery said.

Chambers has ranked Montgomery as a leading individual in Insurance: Non-contentious and Insurance insolvency, and The Legal 500 UK has ranked him as a leading individual for restructuring. He has also been named in Best Lawyers in the UK. Most recently, Montgomery was described by clients in Chambers UK as “creative and knowledgeable in his industry.” He has spoken and written extensively on insurance, cyber risk and other topics.

Montgomery is also a Non-Executive Director of Tyser & Co. Limited, Aquila Underwriting LLP and Hawkes Bay Holdings Limited. He was a partner in another global law firm prior to joining Locke Lord.
