Summer Program

Locke Lord's summer program is distinctive. We don’t view students as temporary guests – we see them as part of our team, with the summer program being just the first stage of your Locke Lord career.  Our summer program is not just a summer job – it’s the groundwork for your career.

Each of our offices independently interviews for and participates in our summer program. We recruit first- and second-year students from schools nationwide with the promise of flexibility in scheduling.  We offer our summer program in our Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and New York offices and work to structure a program that meets the needs and obligations of our candidates.  Law students selected are those who show the ability to succeed as permanent members of our team.

Your assignments are real work, not educational exercises. You will get to know our clients and their businesses. We strongly encourage our summer associates to assume responsibility and develop direct client relationships early in their careers.

Our summer program is designed for you to experience first hand what it is like to be an associate at Locke Lord. We provide summer associates with the freedom to participate in as many or as few practice areas as they desire. During the clerkship, each summer associate is assigned a supervising attorney, who ensures an appropriate workload throughout the clerkship. The supervising attorney also stands ready to answer any question about the Firm, or living and working in the city.

We promote social interaction with the Firm’s partners and associates and provide a hospitable environment for associates’ spouses and families. We help find convenient living arrangements and do all we can to make your association with Locke Lord enjoyable and worthwhile.

We schedule many social events and informal get-togethers to help you learn about the city and your new colleagues. This provides our summer associates with many opportunities for personal and professional interaction with our attorneys.
