
Brad Markoff is managing partner of the Firm's Hong Kong office, Chair of our Asia Practice and a principal in our REIT and International practice groups. He is well known for his experience in complex financing transactions, including business rollups and strategic investments in a wide variety of industry segments, including real estate investment trusts, technology and financial institutions. In his practice, Mr. Markoff regularly handles a wide range of corporate and real estate finance, securities, corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions matters, and he has worked closely with many of the world's major investment banking firms. His clients include National Governments and governmental agencies, public and private Real Estate Companies (including developers, operators, investors, brokerages and service companies), REITs, Investment and Commercial Banks, Private Equity Funds and Trust Companies.
Mr. Markoff has been very active in legislative initiatives in the REIT and real estate finance industry in both the United States and throughout Asia and has served as an advisory board member of the national association of real estate investment trusts and as vice president of the executive committee of the Asian public real estate association. Mr. Markoff led the drafting of NAREIT's various responses to the United States government’s legislative reform initiatives proposed in the wake of the global financial crisis brought on by the accounting irregularities that led to the collapse of Enron and WorldCom. In his dual role on both NAREIT’s and APREA’s Board of Governors, he acted as a liaison between the United States and the Asian REIT Industries, leading to his involvement in a number of legislative initiatives throughout Asia, including the drafting and adoption of the REIT framework by the Philippines and an ABS/Securitization law by the People’s Republic of China (the “PRC”). Mr. Markoff has also been active in advising various study groups and other interested parties in the PRC focused on the adoption of a domestic REIT scheme.
He is a frequent speaker on topics related to cross border finance, REITs, innovative financing structures and mergers and acquisitions, having spoken at numerous conferences and university programs around the world, including the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, the People’s Republic of China, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
