
Matthew Hansen focuses his practices on complex business and financial services litigation. Mr. Hansen has extensive experience representing financial institutions and financial services providers in litigation related to consumer finance. His experience includes regularly defending claims arising under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Texas Debt Collection Practices Act (TDCA), the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA), and related consumer protection statutes. Mr. Hansen also has particular experience defending lawsuits arising under the home equity provisions of the Texas Constitution and lawsuits involving lending and servicing practices, mortgage fraud, and various financial services regulations. His experience also includes representing lenders, servicers, and an insurance company in lawsuits arising from hurricane-related property damage. Mr. Hansen engages in significant motion practice in both state and federal court, defending claims on both procedural and substantive grounds, and also obtaining attorney fee awards. Mr. Hansen assists with the representation of clients in various commercial disputes and lawsuits involving antitrust claims and class action defense, and assists in handling both state and federal appeals. Additionally, he advises clients with respect to business practices and structure to minimize litigation risk and address compliance issues with respect to various consumer protection statutes and regulations.
