
Bill Foley is an associate in the business litigation department of Locke Lord’s New York office with experience in complex commercial litigation and arbitration.
Bill has represented clients in both state and federal courts, including disputes regarding securities fraud, mortgage fraud, breach of contract, intellectual property issues, and non-compete and employment matters. Bill has experience in participating in all stages of pre-trial preparation, including drafting dispositive motions, preparing for and taking depositions, drafting discovery responses and motions, and organizing and assessing complex discovery issues. In addition, Bill has provided advice to one of the world’s largest international banks on its obligations as trustee under various mortgage-backed securities.
Prior to joining the Firm, Bill worked with attorneys in representing Major League Baseball (MLB) teams throughout the salary arbitration process by conducting detailed statistical research to provide pre-tender date salary assessments for arbitration-eligible players, to identify and evaluate comparable players, and to craft the strategy and initial outlines for the clubs' arbitration presentations. In addition, Bill aided in the drafting and preparation of arbitration briefs and exhibits, and participated in the related hearings. Bill helped prepare approximately 35 cases which resulted in five arbitration hearings.

Representative Experience
- Represented sponsor of exchange traded funds in defense of securities and common law fraud claims.
- Represented bank against a purported shareholder class-action suit seeking to block, by preliminary injunction, potential merger.
- Represented bank in an arbitration, and related state-court litigation, arising from a dispute with a former executive accused of fraud and of breaching an employment agreement.
- Assisted in representing a global hospitality chain in arbitration and state and federal litigation arising from a Stock Purchase Agreement, related post-closing purchase price adjustments, and various claims for fraud and misrepresentation.
- Represented pro bono the family of a retired New York City Fire Department Captain, killed in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, in an Article 78 proceeding to properly list him on the National 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero.
