Barrett Breitung's practice currently concentrates on reinsurance issues, and he is a member of our Reinsurance Practice Group. Mr. Breitung has extensive experience background in all phases of insurance coverage litigation with an emphasis on environmental, hearing loss and asbestos-related issues.
Mr. Breitung's litigation accomplishments include briefing and arguing several matters before state trial and appellate courts. He achieved the dismissal of a claim against an insurer concerning good faith settlement payments made before notice of competing interest. He also has extensive experience including dispositive motion practice and settlement negotiations in complex coverage litigations involving companies' claims for environmental and hearing loss coverage.
In addition, Mr. Breitung has been involved in litigation regarding first-party property coverage that includes issues ranging from bad faith and subrogation, to unique concerns involving business expense and interruption. He has also been involved in a reinsurance arbitration involving a cedant's late notice and negligent claims handling.
His past accomplishments in other areas of the law include serving as a legal intern for the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia, working in the Humans Rights Program at the Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta and interning for Justice Carol W. Hunstein at the Supreme Court of Georgia.
