James Helliwell is an associate in the London office of Locke Lord LLP where he focuses his practice on corporate restructuring and contentious/non-contentious insolvency matters. James has acted for banks, investment and ‘turnaround’ funds, insolvency practitioners (Administrators, Liquidators and Receivers), private companies (and their directors) and creditors.
James’s restructuring experience includes acting on business purchase and ‘Pre-Pack’ sales; placing entities into insolvency procedures; providing formal opinion and advice to banks regarding debt exposure; restructuring of bank debt and corporate reorganisation. His insolvency experience includes presenting & defending winding-up proceedings; advising and taking action on behalf of Administrators/Liquidators; providing formal opinion to Receivers and other IPs regarding the validity of their appointments; advice and assistance in relation to antecedent transaction claims; defending IP clients subject to claims; advising on ‘COMI’ issues; and challenging bankruptcy proceedings.
James’s recent experience includes advising Administrators regarding the sale of several UK national and high street businesses and brands. Prior to working for the firm, James completed a secondment with the Bank of Ireland.
