Effective January 1, 2009, the ADA has been amended to broaden the protections for individuals with a disability. On January 16, 2009, new federal regulations will take effect that significantly alter the way employers administer FMLA leave. To help LLBL clients and friends understand the changes in their obligations under both the ADA and FMLA, this breakfast briefing will cover:
- The greatly expanded scope of ADA coverage based on changes to the definition of “disability”
- Clarifications to the definition of “serious health condition” under the FMLA
- Revised FMLA forms and procedures
- New provisions for up to 26 weeks of leave for employees with a family member in the military
